This Colonial style mansion was built in 1880 for the Lewis Family.
Mr. Lewis was a very successful lawyer in Meade County. The house was built to accommodate his large family. He and his wife, Martha E (Farleigh) Lewis, had eight children. This grand home was considered to be the most stately house in the area. One of its many amenities included having a one room school house for the Lewis children.
After Mr. Lewis’s death in 1919, his daughter, Mary Lewis, and her husband, purchased the house from the Lewis heirs. They lived there with their nephew until 1950 when she sold it to a chemical company who used the home as a residence for their plant managers.
Later when the Hillcrest Country Club was organized in 1957 it then used the home as a club house until 1978. It was also used to provide accommodations for overnight guest and dignitaries. It was purchased by the current owner in 1997.
Today The Olin Guest House plays Host to many events and welcomes overnight guest to enjoy a by gone era.
